Divača cave

In 1884 this cave, which opens out by the road from Divača to Lokev, was discovered by the local Gregor Žiberna, called Tentava, and just three years later it was opened to visitors.

Divača caveThis cave is one of the oldest preserved passages of the once aquatically active cave system formed by the Reka. It is 700 m long, and within it there are one and a half kilometres of organised trails.

Over its long geological history a large amount of calcareous deposit has built up, which adorns the interior with fabulous creations in the form of stacks, cypress-like stalagmites, countless curtains and candlelike stalactites.

Among the numerous visitors to discover the treasures of the cave was the famous psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud.

The cave can also be visited by those arriving in Divača by train. The karstological interpretive nature trail leads from the railway station through the karstic forest, past the large sunken doline valleys to the cave.
